Video Production

Shakat Media inc. • Multimedia and Filmmaking

This workshop is designed to provide youth with a comprehensive, hands-on introduction to video production, covering everything from camera operation to directing in the field and editing footage into a polished story. Participants will begin by learning the basics of camera settings, framing shots with composition techniques, and understanding lighting. They'll also delve into sound recording and interview skills, laying the groundwork for capturing high-quality visuals and audio.

Once they've grasped the fundamentals, participants will apply their skills in a practical setting. They'll plan and conduct a simple shoot, setting up cameras and microphones, managing lighting, and conducting interviews. In addition to recording interviews, they'll capture extra footage, or b-roll, to enhance the storytelling aspect of their project. This hands-on experience allows students to fully understand how to manage a production in the field, from planning to execution.

The final part of the workshop introduces participants to video editing using DaVinci Resolve, a free yet powerful editing software. They will learn how to cut and arrange footage, add music and sound, and incorporate titles and simple graphics. By the end of the workshop, participants will have edited their footage into a complete, 2-minute video that tells a cohesive story, equipping them with the skills and confidence to create their own video projects in the future.
