Kim will guide an Expressive Art activity with the class that is suited to their age, and involves creating a tree that represents the student's life. There will be different areas of focus - roots, trunk, branches, twigs, leaves, all which can represent various parts of the student's life that they wish to highlight such as personality traits, talents, activities, interests, goals, dreams, family, friends, and community. The purpose is to solidify the students' sense of identity, personal strengths, and identify the positive resources in their lives.
The artistic skills highlighted would be multimedia work – collaging using a variety of different art supplies to create something that has some dimension, in combination with drawing, coloring, and using written words.
The art activity will be followed by a debrief session where students can share details of their tree with classmates.
