Patti Flather

Artist in the School

Patti Flather is a theatre artist and award-winning published and produced writer of plays, fiction and screenplays who has lived in the Yukon for almost three decades. She has a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of B.C. Patti has taught Dramatic and Creative Writing at Yukon College, and leads writing and theatre creation workshops for youth and adults of diverse backgrounds. She has enjoyed working with young people in Artist in the School, the Young Authors Conference and Yukon Arts Ed-Venture, and spent many years as a youth soccer coach. Patti’s plays including Sixty Below, West Edmonton Mall and Paradise have been produced in the North and across Canada. Paradise was published in 2017 with Playwrights Canada Press. Where the River Meets the Sea won the 2005 Canadian National Playwriting Competition. Patti also wrote the short Yukon film Getting Real. Her short fiction is published in various literary magazines and she's currently working on her first novel. Patti is Artistic Director of Gwaandak Theatre, which develops, produces and tours theatre showcasing Indigenous and Northern voices, offering school matinees and study guides. She’s proud to have raised two wonderful daughters in the Yukon with husband Leonard Linklater.
