Lillian Loponen made a strong and notable contribution to Yukon art communities since 1980, through numerous exhibitions, art instruction, museum exhibits and as an advocate for the creative process. The Loponen heartbeat can be felt in her paintings, located in noted permanent art collections such as the Royal Collection of Drawing and Watercolours, Winsor Castle, UK. A Canadian history of watercolours 1925-2000, exhibited in Toronto 2001, included a Loponen watercolour. Since 1976, numerous private, international collections hold works that carry a vibration of life, quiet power, haunting mists and spirit energies of Canada’s northland. In 2016, Loponen was flown to Vancouver and introduced to the Royal couple, the Prime Minister and Sophie, to talk about her watercolour gifted to the Immigrant Service Society of BC for the opening of their new building in June 2016. The title of the watercolour is “Where Dreams Begin.” I have been instructing workshops in the Yukon communities and its school since 1985....students and adults.
