I am a Nehiyaw Iskwew (Cree Woman) from Maskwacis, Alberta. I have been in the Yukon since I was 10. I am self-taught; I started beading quite young but wasn't committed to it until I was about 18. I was motivated to begin my artistic journey after seeing Indigenous fashion and art become recognized and appreciated. Since then, I have wanted to gain recognition for my art whether it be widely known or not. I am choosing to teach in schools because I want youth to begin their creative journey earlier than I started.
I have taught different styles of beadwork and techniques privately, as a volunteer or through my job at Kwanlin Dun First Nation. Part of my vision for giving lessons to groups or single individuals is to help people connect with their traditional roots as well as their creative abilities. Not all of my art techniques are traditional however, I want Indigenous individuals to feel good about expressing who they are through art in many forms such as sewing, painting and crocheting.
