Barb Hinton is a visual artist, teacher, community arts programmer and advocate. Based out of Whitehorse, she originally hails from the Qu'appelle Valley just outside Regina, SK, and previously lived and worked in Vancouver and a slew of cities and small towns in Brazil, Uganda, and the U.S. She is inspired by the magic of the north, and the abundant connection to nature has directly influenced her work which is largely informed by a sense of place and the complex relationship of humans and their environment. Currently she is making art, teaching in the schools, and coordinating arts programs at the new Heart of Riverdale Community Centre in Whitehorse. She is working with the youth focused Whitehorse Independent Theatre, and developing art exhibits with the Southern Lakes Artist Collective, and the Mobius Collective which combines art and science. She has exhibited paintings and assemblages in the U.S. and Canada, is a painting instructor with Emily Carr University Continuing Studies, and has been a regular guest art teacher at the Cedar Walk Aboriginal School in Vancouver and the Wood Street School Experiential Science program in Whitehorse. She has a BFA, BED/Teaching Certificate, Masters in Community Development, and completed 8 courses at Emily Carr University.
